Quick update:
Justin informs me that they are calling their new boat, “Burrito Kenevil.”
It will have a burrito on a motorcycle as the logo.
Sounds messy, but fun.

The Charleston fleet continues to grow at a rapid rate. Justin Walling and Jose Biascoechea bought hull 14684, which I’ve nicknamed “Exotic Pet”, from Chris Hamilton. They hail from James Island Yacht Club. Please join me in welcoming them to our great class.
Chris is scheduled to debut his new Allen at the District Championships this weekend.

Over twelve races in 3 cities, Greg, Jo Ann and Jeff scored no race worse than 9th (excluding the 24th they threw out). Together they brought the Southern Circuit Championship back to our favorite harbor, Charleston!
After warming up with a 5th place finish at the Deep South Regatta in Savannah, GA, Greg Fisher with Jo Ann Fisher and Jeff Eiber crewing finished 1st in the Miami Midwinter Championship. The Fishers proved that consistency pays, with 6 finishes no better than 3rd and no worse than 9th.
For complete results, visit the Lightning Class website.
Next up are the Winter Championships at the famous St. Petersburg Yacht Club. The Fishers, the Hamiltons and Will Tyner, who also raced in Miami, are expected to be joined by Mark Marenakos and Lenny Krawcheck when racing starts on Friday.
Following on the heals of the hugely successful 2011 Charleston Wild Oyster Lightning Regatta, plans are already under way for the second annual regatta in October 2012. Please mark your calendars for 20-21 of October 2012. We’re expecting to have a sailing clinic on the Friday afternoon, October 19, before the regatta.
Awesome regatta in Savannah this weekend at a great (if quirky) venue. The field was strong and deep, including several former world, NA and national champions. The top 3 finisher from Charleston were:
Chris Hamilton and co. won the mid-fleet award and thanked the class for confirming that he’s “average”.
Ted Fairchild was the award for being the youngest sailor at the regatta (age 10).
Martha Fisher won an APS gift certificate for racing the oldest boat in the regatta.

Matt Moore has announced that he has named his new Lightning “Mighty Moose”. He’ll be commuting to back to Charleston from Clemson to sail with us this spring. He plans to be in Charleston for the summer and should up the fun factor in our increasingly competitive fleet.
Please help us in welcoming Matt to the fleet.
If your boat name isn’t posted at http://charlestonlightning.com/charleston-boats/, please send the name of your boat to ReggieFairchild@gmail.com. Fleet Captain Lenny K. has authorized me to make up names for boats that don’t submit something within 45 days. Ha!
Congratulations to Matt Moore on the purchase of 14318 from Wilmington, NC. Matt brings our Lightning fleet to 16 boats! We can’t wait to see Matt on the water.
Everyone else, if you’re interested in joining our fleet, please let us know how we can help. There’s lots of expertise around town.
We’re going to have some great racing and family fun this year.
